bG After Hours presents Silk Itajime Shibori Workshop with Sensei Setsuko Hayashi and Mike Saijo. Hosted at Michael Hayden Gallery.
Design your own silk crepe de chine scarf using a Japanese dyeing technique called Shibori that dates back to the 8th century. Master textile dye artist, Sensei Setsuko Hayashi will guide you in folding, binding, and dyeing your fabric in the “itajime” shibori style, a method where objects are used to create negative spaces in the dye.
You’ll leave with a one-of-a-kind silk scarf at 15″ x 60″ to keep for yourself or give as a gift to someone special. All materials included with admission. Bring an apron or clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.
There will be two sessions held on Sunday, November 7th. The first session will be held from 10am – 12pm and the second session will be held from 1pm – 3pm.
