Paige Emery, Diary of a Young Man

Paige Emery’s painting called “Diary of a Young Man” is my pick of the week. It is a 4×4 inch oil on wood painting.

I picked it from the Blue section of the Spectrum Gestalt 4 exhibition because, of all the great works that make up this section, I feel particularly connected to this little painting. Emery uses oil painting and printmaking to capture vulnerable moments of truth among people she loves and meets in creative communities. In this case, the boy sitting alone is looking right at the observer as if he’s a little scared but very curious about him at the same time. It represents a situation to which anyone can easily relate.

The work is featured in the Spectrum Gestalt 4 lasting until July 8th.
