T. Chick McClure, Jordan, Gold + Milk No. 197

By: Francesca Pirovano

T. Chick McClure’s photograph “Jordan, Gold + Milk No. 197” is my pick of the week.

It is part of the Spectrum Gestalt 4 exhibition and it’s one of those works that really catches the eye of the observer. The sharpness of the image along with the interesting combination of milk and gold leaf on Jordan’s skin make the work really stand out in its section of the exhibit. At the same time, it connects perfectly with the golden paintings on its side and bonds with its two brothers, “Ian” and “Brian”, other photographs from the same artist. Chick McClure’s recent portrait work deals with themes of gender, masculinity, sexuality and authenticity as those themes relate to himself. When shooting portraits of others, he is capturing the image of himself.

The work is featured in the Spectrum Gestalt 4 closing sunday, July 9th.
