bG Gallery presents a night of poetry in conjunction with it’s Art of Humor exhibit; an exhibit of artworks of humor and wit.
Featured Poets: Brendan Constantine, Dina Hardy and Rick Lupert
Brendan Constantine is a native of Los Angeles. His work has appeared in numerous journals, notably FIELD, Ploughshares, Ninth Letter, ZYZZYVA, Poetry Daily, Verse Daily and LA Times bestseller The Underground Guide To Los Angeles. His most recent books are ‘Birthday Girl With Possum’ (2011 Write Bloody Publishing) and ‘Calamity Joe’ (2012 Red Hen Press). His first collection, Letters To Guns (2009 Red Hen Press), continues to receive acclaim and is taught extensively throughout the Southland. Brendan has received grants and commissions from the Getty Museum, the James Irvine Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts. He is currently poet curator of literary programs at the Craft & Folk Art Museum of Los Angeles, poet in residence at the Windward School and adjunct professor at Antioch University. Dina Hardy, author of the limited-edition chapbook Selections from The World Book, earned degrees from Pratt Art Institute and the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. Her work has appeared in numerous literary journals, including Agni, Black Warrior Review, Transom, Lo-Ball and Meridian’s Best New Poets anthology. She has been a Pushcart Prize nominee and a Stegner Fellow at Stanford University.
Rick Lupert has been involved with L.A. poetry since 1990. He created the Poetry Super Highway (http://poetrysuperhighway.com) and has hosted the weekly Cobalt Cafe reading since 1994. He’s authored 15 collections of poetry, including “Nothing in New England is New” and “I’m a Jew, Are You?” He also edited “A Poet’s Haggadah”, the Noir anthology “The Night Goes on All Night.” and “Ekphrastia Gone Wild” under his imprint Ain’t Got No Press. He is regularly featured at venues throughout Southern California and works as a music teacher and graphic designer for anyone who would like to help pay his mortgage.
